Jo Orchard-Lisle has scoured UK riverbanks from manicured Test to the wildest Hebridean bogland in search of the ideal fishing hut. Setting out with camera and a sunny disposition, she has travelled across the country to photograph huts of all sorts, from famous retreats like Isaak Walton’s on the Dove and A.H.E. Wood’s lavish headquarters at Cairnton on Dee to the merest tin bothy in the Highland wilderness.
A remarkable variety of fishing hideouts are illustrated in over 270 colour photos taken with the co-operation of riparian owners and angling clubs. Jo’s diary of her journeying tells the story of the people and places encountered on the way and gives some of the history of the older buildings, like F.M.Halford’s hut at Mottisfont or the Nissen hut at Broadlands on the Test.
Published by Excellent Press, with a Foreword by Chris Tarrant, the result is an extraordinary and fascinating book which provides enough fishing fantasies to last through the longest close season.
